Heute bin ich mal von mir zu Fuß von Westdene nach Melville gegangen. Ist ein netter Stadtteil mit Bars, Cafés und Restaurants sowie kleine Geschäfte. Auch hier merkt man, dass durch Corona einige nicht überlebt haben und hat Melvilles 7th Street besonders hart getroffen, und im Winter 2020 haben viele Geschäfte geschlossen (wie The Whippet, Santa Muerta, Lucky Bean, der Goliath Comedy Club, La Petite Maison und La Stalla) oder sind in andere Vororte gezogen, wie Ba Pita (jetzt in Norwood) und Pablo Eggs Go Bar (jetzt in Sandton).
Aber auch vor Corona hat sich die 7th Street in Melville stets verändert, da neue Geschäfte eröffnet wurden oder ältere ihren Namen und Eigentümer wechselten. Im Laufe ihres Bestehens hat die Hauptstraße von Melville Höhen und Tiefen erlebt, aber ich mag diesen Stadtteil und ich finde es lohnt sich da mal hinzufahren.

Melville wurde im Jahre 1856 gegründet und als ein Ort nahe bei Johannesburg mit herrlichem Blick über die bewaldete Landschaft im Norden, angepriesen. Heute ist die Stadt so gewachsen, dass Melville nicht mehr bei Johannesburg, sondern gleich mitten drin ist! Dennoch sind weite Teile der natürlichen Landschaft erhalten geblieben. Um sich nach einer lebendigen Nacht in Melville draußen in der Natur zu entspannen, empfehlen wir einen Besuch der nahegelegenen Melville Koppies (die werde ich mir auch mal anschauen und wandern gehen, machen aber die Tore nur Sonntags auf) , eines sanft hügeligen Naturreservats inmitten der Stadt.

Today I walked from Westdene to Melville. It's a nice part of town with bars, cafés and restaurants as well as small shops. Here, too, you can see that Corona has hit Melville's 7th Street particularly hard, and in the winter of 2020 many businesses closed (like The Whippet, Santa Muerta, Lucky Bean, the Goliath Comedy Club, La Petite Maison and La Stalla) or moved to other suburbs, like Ba Pita (now in Norwood) and Pablo Eggs Go Bar (now in Sandton).
But even before Corona, 7th Street in Melville was always changing as new businesses opened or older ones changed names and owners. Over the existing years , Melville's main street has seen ups and downs, but I like this part of town and I think it's worth going there.

Melville was founded in 1856 and advertised as a town close to Johannesburg with beautiful views over the wooded landscape to the north. Today, the town has grown so much that Melville is no longer near Johannesburg, but right in the middle of it! Nevertheless, large parts of the natural landscape have been preserved. To relax outside in nature after a lively night in Melville, we recommend a visit to the nearby Melville Koppies (I'll check them out and go hiking too, but they only open their gates on Sundays). a nature reserve in the middle of town.
