Kosi Bay Mouth

Heute ging es mit einem Guide und 2 Damen ( Carol and Sharol) die auch hier in der Lodge sind zum Kosibay Mouth. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kwangwanase Denn die Mündung ist nur mit Hilfe eines Geländewagens zugänglich.Wir waren dort für 4 Stunden und es war unbeschreiblich. Man kam sich vor wie in der Karibik.

Die Mündung der Kosi-Bucht ist wegen der Klarheit des Wassers und des Reichtums an Fischarten als "Aquarium" bekannt. Es ist einer der ruhigsten Strände Südafrikas. In der Kosi Bay befinden sich auch die berühmten, über 700 Jahre alten traditionellen Tsonga-Fischreusen (fish kraals), und man kann die Einheimischen in Aktion erleben.

Kosi Bay Mouth gehört zum iSimangaliso Wetland Park, einem UNESCO-Weltnaturerbe, und liegt an der nordöstlichen Spitze der Provinz KZN, nur wenige Kilometer von der Grenze zu Mosambik entfernt. Die Kosi-Bucht ist bekannt für ihre vier natürlichen Seensysteme. Die Mündung besteht aus 4 Seen, nämlich Amanzamnyama, KuNhlange, Makhawulani und Mpungwini. Diese Seen reichen von Süßwasser bis zu Salzwasser und bestehen aus miteinander verbundenen Kanälen, die in den warmen Indischen Ozean führen. 

Das Mündungssystem der Kosi Bay besteht aus einer Reihe miteinander verbundener Kanäle und vier Seen, die in die sandige Mündung fließen, bevor sie den Indischen Ozean erreichen. Dieses subtropische Paradies bietet eine spektakuläre Tier-, Vogel- und Pflanzenwelt, darunter interessante Mangroven- und Palmenarten.

Flusspferde und Krokodile kommen in den höheren Lagen vor. Lederschildkröten kommen hierher, um ihre Eier in Nestern am Strand abzulegen. Zu den Vögeln, die man hier beobachten kann, gehören die Pels Fishing Owl und der vom Aussterben bedrohte Palmnut Vulture. Die sandige Mündung lädt zum Schwimmen und Planschen  ein.

Der Tag war ein voller Erfolg und für Montag haben wir eine Bootstour gebucht und für den Nachmittag den Besuch der Schildkröten.

We were there for 4 hours and it was indescribable. It felt like being in the Caribbean.

The mouth of Kosi Bay is known as the "Aquarium" because of the clarity of the water and the abundance of fish species. It is one of the quietest beaches in South Africa. Kosi Bay is also home to the famous traditional Tsonga fish traps (fish kraals), which are over 700 years old, and you can see the locals in action.

Kosi Bay Mouth is part of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is situated on the north-eastern tip of KZN Province, just a few kilometres from the Mozambique border. Kosi Bay is known for its four natural lake systems. The estuary consists of 4 lakes, namely Amanzamnyama, KuNhlange, Makhawulani and Mpungwini. These lakes range from freshwater to saltwater and consist of interconnected channels leading to the warm Indian Ocean. 

The Kosi Bay estuary system consists of a series of interconnected channels and four lakes that flow into the sandy estuary before reaching the Indian Ocean. This subtropical paradise offers spectacular wildlife, birdlife and flora, including interesting species of mangroves and palms.

Hippos and crocodiles are found in the higher elevations. Leatherback turtles come here to lay their eggs in nests on the beach. Birds to watch here include the Pels Fishing Owl and the endangered Palmnut Vulture. The sandy estuary is great for swimming and splashing around.

The day was a complete success and for Monday we have booked a boat tour and for the afternoon a visit to the turtles.
